Sample Cake

Just a sample of what I have been doing. Just did this at home. I haven't been doing the decorating at work. Just the base and the border on the bottom. Just a little practice piece. It's only 3 1/2" x 4".

Baby shower!

I filled my first cake order today. :D Amanda's step-sister is also pregnant so her step-mother was throwing a baby shower for both of them and wanted two bellies...one pink and one blue. The pink is a white cake and the blue is a chocolate cake.

Baby Shower Cakes

Today was Amanda's shower. I made a baby belly cake and a new idea...a baby bottle. I am happy with both and so was everyone that came.

Dolphin Cake

I needed practice...and another cake design to add to my portfolio...so I made a birthday cake for a friend. She loves dolphins so I decided to try to make a dolphin cake. I am very happy with the outcome and she was extremely surprised.

Baby Belly Cake

Today I decided to practice making the cake that I want to make for Amanda's baby shower next month. I just love trying to cook/bake in my mom's kitchen. She has nothing that I need and if she does she has no clue where it is. I was unable to find the folding hook attachment for the mixer. We have no rolling pin. I couldn't find the cupcake pan until I didn't need it anymore. Fun stuff, really.

The cake is just a white cake with red gel food coloring in it to make it pink. I didn't have the form that people have used for the belly, so I used a metal mixing bowl. Since I couldn't find the cupcake pan, I used a tiny loaf pan.

Step 1
Here you see the bowl cake, which I started shaping a little, and the tiny loaf, which is upside down.

Step 2
Here I have shaped a little more, cut the loaf in two, and cut the top off of the loaf and placed it on the flat part in the middle of the belly.

Step 3
Here I have finished all the shaping.

Step 4
Here it is iced. I learned not to used whipped icing for this.

Step 5
The finished product!

The whole thing took about 5 hours. Supplies cost about $15. The recipe for the fondant made twice as much as I needed for this cake.
